Free online STL, OBJ and 3MF viewer

Last updated: 21 October 2026

DIMview opens 3D model files in your browser and checks whether a part is ready for 3D printing. There is nothing to install, and the file is read on your own device instead of being uploaded.

Open a 3D model

  1. Open DIMview with the button below.
  2. Drag the model onto the page, or press the open area and choose the file. For an OBJ with materials, select the .obj, the .mtl and the texture images together.
  3. Orbit by dragging, zoom with the wheel and pan with the right mouse button.

Open DIMview

These mesh formats open: STL, OBJ, PLY, 3MF, AMF, GLB and glTF, FBX, DAE (Collada), 3DS, VRML, USDZ, LWO, VTK and OFF. Files with no reliable unit information, such as STL, OBJ, PLY, 3MF and 3DS, are shown in millimetres, and the Units list in the status bar changes that if a model turns out 1000 times too large or too small. Files that carry real units, such as glTF, DAE and IFC, keep them.

Check a model for 3D printing

Select the model, open the Props panel and press Analyze in the 3D print analysis section. DIMview reports:

The weight is volume times density for a solid part, so a print with infill weighs less. When the mesh is not watertight or has inconsistent normals, volume and weight are marked as approximate.

Privacy

The model is read by your browser and is not uploaded, so unreleased designs and customer parts stay on your device. Our visitor statistics count page views without cookies and never see the file (privacy policy).

What DIMview does not do

DIMview does not repair meshes, slice models or edit geometry. It tells you what is wrong, and you fix it in your CAD or slicer program.

Questions

Is the STL viewer free?

Yes. There are no ads, no account and no time limit.

Why is my model a thousand times too big?

STL and OBJ files do not store a unit. DIMview assumes millimetres, which is what 3D printing uses. If your file was exported in metres, set the Units list in the status bar to match.

What does a non manifold edge mean for printing?

It means three or more faces meet at one edge, so the mesh does not describe a clean solid. Many slicers cope with it, some produce gaps or fail, and a repair in the CAD program is the safe choice.

DIMview is built by MB PRECIZIUM, a 3D scanning, engineering and 3D printing company in Ukmergė, Lithuania. If you need a part scanned, a model rebuilt in CAD or a drawing checked, see our services or get in touch.
