Free online PDF viewer with measure, redact and DXF export

Last updated: 21 October 2026

DIMview opens PDF files in your browser and does the editing jobs that usually send people to an online PDF tool: rotating, reordering and deleting pages, redacting text, measuring a drawing. The file is read on your own device and is not uploaded.

Open a PDF

  1. Open DIMview with the button below.
  2. Drag the PDF onto the page, or press the open area and choose the file.
  3. Zoom with the plus and minus buttons, the wheel with Ctrl, or by typing a percentage. The zoom range runs from 50 % to 10,000 %, so small details of a drawing can be inspected at full sharpness.

Measure a drawing in a PDF

A PDF of a drawing has no real scale until you give it one. Press Calibrate, click the two ends of a dimension you know and enter its real length. After that, every distance you measure is shown in real units and marked with an asterisk. The scale calculator next to the toolbar solves a ratio, for example the real size of a second dimension from a reference one. Distances show the straight line and the X and Y differences.

Redact a PDF without uploading it

Press Redact, click two opposite corners of the area and repeat for every area. When you save a copy, a redacted page is rendered as an image with the areas painted over, so the text and the drawing under them are not in the saved file. Pages without redactions stay as they were. The fill in the saved file is white, so it blends with a white page, and the red box is only the preview. Check the saved file before you send it.

Rotate, reorder, delete, extract and insert pages

Every saved copy has the author, producer, creator, subject and keywords removed from the document information. The title and the dates stay.

Notes, text search and document details

Add an arrow with a text note anywhere on a page. Text in the PDF can be selected and searched with the find box. A details panel shows the document information, detects digital signatures, lists attachments and shows the layers of a PDF with optional content, read only.

PDF to DXF

The DXF button saves the vector drawing of the chosen pages as a DXF file that AutoCAD and other CAD programs open. Lines, polylines, curves and text are exported, and curves become short line segments. Lines and fills go to layers named after their colour, so a drawing arrives with its colours as separate layers. Text that is real text in the PDF becomes DXF text, while letters that were drawn as outlines arrive as outlines. Several pages are placed side by side. If you have calibrated the page, the scale is applied.

This works for vector PDFs, which is what CAD programs print. A scanned drawing is a picture and has nothing to convert. Dashed lines are saved as solid lines, images are not exported, and a page with redactions is refused, because a DXF would still contain the covered drawing. Check the result in your CAD program, and for drawings with hatches or many fills expect to clean up.

Privacy

The PDF is read by your browser and is not uploaded. Contracts, drawings and personal documents stay on your device, which is the reason to use DIMview instead of an online converter. Our visitor statistics count page views without cookies and never see the file (privacy policy).
