Free online DWG and DXF viewer
Last updated: 21 October 2026
DIMview opens AutoCAD DWG and DXF drawings in your browser. You do not need AutoCAD or any other CAD program, and the drawing is read on your own device instead of being uploaded.
Open a drawing
- Open DIMview with the button below.
- Drag the .dwg or .dxf file onto the page, or press the open area and choose it.
- The drawing appears fitted to the window. Zoom with the wheel and pan by dragging.
DXF files are read by DIMview's own parser. DWG files are read by the open source LibreDWG library, which runs as WebAssembly in a background worker, and the result is shown in the same viewer. DWG is read only. If a DWG does not open, save it as DXF from your CAD program and open that file instead.
What you can do with a drawing
- Work with layers. The layer list shows each layer with its colour, and you can switch layers on and off to see what belongs where.
- Measure. Click two points to get the distance and the X and Y differences. Points snap to line endpoints, so a dimension taken from the drawing geometry is exact.
- Calibrate. Distances are shown in the drawing's own units and labelled mm. If the drawing uses other units, click two ends of a known dimension and enter its real length. All later measurements are scaled and marked with an asterisk.
- Use the scale calculator. Enter a reference measurement, its real value and a second measurement to get the second real value.
- Mark up. Add arrows with text notes, or cover an area with a redaction box.
- Rotate the view in steps of 90 degrees, and save a copy of the current view as a PNG image with the notes included.
- Print the drawing with its measurements and notes, using Ctrl+P.
PDF drawings to DXF
Drawings often arrive as PDF. DIMview can also convert the vector content of a PDF page into a DXF file: lines, polylines, curves and text are exported, with layers named by colour. See the PDF viewer page for what it does and what it leaves out.
Privacy
The drawing is read by your browser and is not uploaded. That makes DIMview suitable for drawings that belong to a client or an employer and are not meant to leave your computer. Our visitor statistics count page views without cookies and never see the file (privacy policy).
What DIMview does not do
DIMview is a viewer and a measuring tool, not a CAD editor. You cannot change the geometry of a drawing and save it back as DWG or DXF.
Questions
Is the DWG viewer free?
Yes. There are no ads, no account and no time limit.
Which DWG versions can it read?
DIMview relies on LibreDWG, which reads most DWG files from common AutoCAD versions. Some files may not open, and exporting a DXF from the CAD program is the reliable way around that.
Can I trust the measured distances?
Points snap to the geometry, so the result follows the drawing exactly. Check the unit first: if the drawing is not in millimetres, calibrate on a known dimension before you read the numbers.
