Free online point cloud viewer
Last updated: 21 October 2026
DIMview opens 3D scan data in your browser. You can look at a LAS, LAZ, E57 or XYZ point cloud without scanner software, and the file is read on your own device instead of being uploaded.
Open a point cloud
- Open DIMview with the button below.
- Drag the file onto the page, or press the open area and choose it.
- The cloud opens in a dedicated scan viewer with its own toolbar. Orbit by dragging, zoom with the wheel and pan with the right mouse button.
The formats are LAS, LAZ (compressed LAS), COPC, E57, PCD, PTS, PTX, XYZ and its variants XYZRGB and XYZI, ASC, and PLY files that contain points. Plain text files such as TXT and CSV with coordinates are recognised too. LAZ files are decompressed in the browser with the open source laz-perf library, compiled to WebAssembly.
What you can do with a cloud
- Choose how points are coloured: by their own RGB colour, by height, intensity, LAS classification, slope or point density, or in one colour. Height and the other scalar modes use a palette of your choice: terrain, viridis, thermal, grayscale or rainbow.
- Improve depth. Eye dome lighting shades points by depth so that shapes read better in a cloud without colour. Point size can grow when you move closer.
- Measure distances between two points on the cloud.
- Cut a cross section profile. Click two points and DIMview draws the profile of the points along that line as a chart, with its length and the elevation difference.
- Slice by elevation to hide everything above or below a level, and filter by LAS classification, for example ground only.
- Place markers with a label at points of interest and export them as a JSON file.
- Switch layers of the loaded file on and off in the layers panel.
- Change the display. Use preset views, auto rotate, a light or dark background, the opacity, the sun direction for shading and a water level plane.
The status bar shows the frame rate, the number of points, the coordinates under the cursor and the distance of the camera. A point budget setting limits how many points are drawn, which keeps very large clouds responsive on a modest computer or a phone.
Privacy
The cloud is read by your browser and is not uploaded. Scan data of a building, a plant or a client site often must not leave the company, and with DIMview it does not. Our visitor statistics count page views without cookies and never see the file (privacy policy).
What DIMview does not do
DIMview does not register scans against each other, clean noise, classify points or build a mesh. It is for looking at the data, taking measurements and checking a scan before it goes into other software. If the scan needs to become a CAD or BIM model, that is work we do at MB PRECIZIUM, see below.
Questions
Is the point cloud viewer free?
Yes. There are no ads, no account and no time limit.
How big a cloud can it open?
It depends on the memory of your device. DIMview warns when a file is larger than 100 MB, and the point budget keeps the display responsive by drawing a share of the points. Cropping or thinning a very large scan in your scanner software first helps.
Why does my E57 or LAS file show no colour?
Not every file stores colour. Switch the colour mode to height or intensity, which most scans do contain.
